The piece
In 1904 Louis Cartier granted the wish of the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont: to read the time in mid-flight, without letting go of the controls. So was born one of the first wristwatches, out of a friendship between two pioneers. Rounded dial corners, curved lugs, exposed screws: a silhouette that became an icon and has been reinterpreted ever since. Large model, steel case, silvered sunray-brushed dial and blued-steel sword hands, on navy blue alligator.
